Eifel

Spending a long weekend in Simmerath and the Eifel national park in west-Germany. Having never visited before, we went out to seek long hikes in nature for 2 days.
We walked past a large World War II bunker just before visiting Wollseifen. A now abandoned village with a combination of old military buildings. Various signs tell its history.
National Park Eifel is the home of Vogelsang, a large WWII structure that was used as a university and military complex. It is now a museum.
On the second day we did a long hike starting from Heimbach that led us to the Mariawald abbey.
